My gr.grandfather was LUDWIG SCHMIDTKE born approx. 1870's possibly East Prussia. Parents unknown. Emigrated to Lyudvikovka, Vohlynia, Ukraine. Ludwig had one
known sibling GUSTAV SCHMIDTKE also living in Vohlynia. Ludwig was a Baptist minister/missionary. His first wife was PAULINE BOWIN. Born approx. 1870's possibly East Prussia, parents, siblings unknown. Ludwig and
Pauline had six daughters, LYDIA, OLGA, AMELIA, OTTILIA, HILDEGARD, and youngest born 1906, AUGUSTE, married names unknown. Auguste died in Germany 1973. Some of these women ended up being shipped to Siberia
possibly never returning to Ukraine. Pauline died approx. 1906, possibly birthing Auguste. In 1906-1907 Ludwig remarried to FREDRIKA TESCH. Fredrika is believed to have been born in Lyudvikovka approx. 1887. Her
parents are unknown, a sister name unknown married a man named Fester and they had at least one child named Erna. Fredrika sang in the church choir that Ludwig belonged to. Ludwig and Fredrika had three children.
RHEINHOLD SCHMIDTKE, born 1907 married Olga had six children, some still living in Germany, he died in Holland 1945. IDA SCHMIDTKE, born 1912, still living in Canada. THEODORE SCHMIDTKE born 1914, marriage,
children, unknown, died as a young man during WWII. Fredrika died at age 28, 1915, of typhoid in Vohlynia. Ludwig died 1917, in Vohlynia causes unknown. My line is through their daughter Ida who is my Oma. Ida
married MAURICE KUTASEVICH in Romanovka, Vohlynia, year 1931. Maurice was born approx. 1900-1902 in Romanovka. His parents were ANTON KUTASEVICH and KAROLINA BECKER, nothing else is currently known on Anton and
Karolina.
Maurice had some known siblings, JULIANA, married name unknown, Stanislaus, and Jaroslaus, possibly others. Maurice and Ida lived in Romanovka, they had a crystal factory. The factorys address is
believed to be Gershinski, Rayon, UDSSR, Stekolney, Zowod, Kraseny. If this makes sense as an address please let me know. They had three children Galina born 1932, Anatolia born 1934, Mechaslaus born 1937. Galina aka
Helen died in Canada June 6, 1992. Anatolia is my mother, still living, as is Mechaslaus. Maurice was executed in 1937 by the NKVD in 1937. He was torn out of his bed and taken to Berditchkov, Vohlynia. There he was
tortured and put to death simply for his political beliefs and his desire for freedom. Ida knew he was murdered and not shipped to some Gulag because my grandfather had the presence of mind to draw a black cross
inside his shirt, which was returned to Ida. This is how we know. Ida fled Ukraine with her children which now included a son, Paul in 1943. First to Poland, then Germany with the retreating German army. Her ability
to speak German fluently helped to save them, and the fact that she switched back to her maiden name Schmidtke. Eventually the family emigrated to Canada in 1952.
